LIQUOR LICENCE

The issue of Liquor Licences is managed through the Ministry of Transport.

Any sale or supply of liquor in public places requires a licence as stated in the Sale of Liquor Act 1991-1992.  The Act sets out the requirements and the criteria the Liquor Licencing Authority consider when granting liquor licences.

Liquor Licence is issued to a named person, company or organisation and cannot be transferred.  There are different types of licenses as identified in Part II of the Act, and these may include:

  • Hotel / Motel
  • Bar
  • Restaurant and Restaurant/Bar
  • Club premises
  • Night club
  • Retail premise
  • Special licences for premises or particular trading hours and guest room bar licences
  • Airport

Unless specifically indicated, the licence authorises the holder to sell or supply alcohol on the premises only. Liquor cannot be removed from these premises. There can be various conditions that apply to each licence.
